Ryo Kubota, M.D., Ph.D., Acucela’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, will participate in the inaugural Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) R&D Cluster Workshop. The OIST is a new international university being established by the Japanese Government, in Okinawa, Japan. Its mandate is to conduct world‐class research and education and to contribute to the self-sustaining economic growth of Okinawa by encouraging entrepreneurship and enabling the development of clusters of R&D surrounding the university. Because of his medical research and entrepreneurship experience in the U.S. and Japan, Dr. Kubota has been invited to participate in this workshop aimed at providing a forum for in depth discussions on the topic of developing R&D clusters based on science and technology.
