07/23/10 Acucela CEO and Founder Participated in the METI Sponsored 3rd meeting of Exchange of Views on
Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Ryo Kubota, M.D., Ph.D., Acucela’s chairman, president and chief executive officer participated in the third meeting of the “Exchange of Views on Innovation and Entrepreneurship” hosted by METI. Members of the “U.S.-Japan Dialogue to Promote Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Job Creation” were invited. At this meeting, the Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) and the Kauffman Fellows Program (KFP) presented the progress of the newly established consortium and led a discussion with all the participants. Following the meeting, METI in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy, hosted a signing ceremony to establish the Consortium. Minister Naoshima, Vice-Minister Mashiko and Ambassador Roos attended.

Ryo Kubota, M.D., Ph.D., Acucela’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, has been recognized as a Stevie Distinguished Honoree in Executive of the Year in North America in The 2010 International Business Awards. The International Business Awards are the only global, all-encompassing business awards program honoring great performances in business. Nicknamed the Stevie® for the Greek word “crowned,” the awards will be presented to honorees at a gala dinner on Monday, 27 September in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey. Honorees were selected from more than 1,700 entries received from organizations and individuals in more than 40 countries.
